Do you have an internal monologue?

Not sure if this was posted already/allowed, but I found this so mind blowing

How is this??!! Do you read everything you text or read out loud? Sometimes me imagining things helps me...

Question for whoever doesn’t have internal monologue;

You don’t ever daydream about anything? Does this imply you don’t have a photographic memory? Or you do and your mind just spells it out in a sentence? If I forget something, the object or whatever I forgot will continuously run through my head until I do it

It’s super interesting. I don’t think that way at all. I picture things often, but not words like that.

Right?? 😂 I read somewhere that they actually visualize words rather than “hear” it in their head.

Yeah my brain ain't ever shut the fuck up. Got that internal monologue plus a song playing plus probably something else 😂 I understand the concept of not having an internal monologue but it's impossible to actually imagine

Imagine how creepy quiet it would be without it....

This was posted before, but it’s a really interesting topic! i guess it just got removed because it’s not much of a “controversy”, but it’s a lot better than what’s been posted recently 😩

I'm practically narrating my entire life in my head

I just learned some people can’t smell something that isn’t there. For instance... I can smell my old lavender plants thinking about it. They’ve been dead in another state for over a year now.

I have phantom smells sometimes but I don't think everyone can do what you're doing lol

I randomly smell smoke even though its not there. I also can smell foods if I'm really craving them, but don't think about memories enough to know if I can smell things in them

I don't have a visual mind at all, so it honestly confuses me when people say they have a photographic memory or can see objects. Or even alot more than a single object. I can only see things when I dream. I believe most people aren't visual thinkers. So yes, I hear my own voice in my head and I also have conversations with people like friends, family, or my spouse in my head. Things ranging from myself saying, "Where did I leave my keys?" In my head, to having long conversations about different topics. Especially when I'm trying to work through a problem. Usually with the long conversations I'm talking to "someone else" even though it's still just in my head.

Oh and I do rough drafts and sketches, because that is the first time I can actually see what I'm trying to make

And I remember what things look like in general, but I can't visualize it. It's hard to explain but I just "know" or remember what some things look like. The only thing in my head is my voice. So when drawing something new I spend alot of time researching and gathering references to help my artwork turn out better

Sorry I didn't see your reply until now. It's definitely harder to do artwork without I visual mind, I'm sure. I can't visualize anything, not faces or pets, so photos are important. And with artwork, references are important, like I could never draw a car from memory or probably not even a realistic face. When I did a self portrait one time, I used a photo of myself for reference. But almost everything I draw and paint is fantasy, I stay away from realism and do semi- realistic, anime, abstract, etc. Anything besides hyper realism. But when I do something realistic I have to have references

I’ve daydreamed my entire life since I was a little girl, and have kept myself entertained whenever I was doing anything by playing out scenarios in my head. I could do it for hours. I honestly couldn’t imagine my life as a child without being able to visualize anything. I mean does someone who doesn’t have internal monologue ever reminisce about their childhood? Do they ever look back and see themself as a little kid?? I have so many questions 😭 even when I was pregnant I could somewhat visualize what my baby would look like and so on

Yup when I wanted to curse someone out but instead resolved like a responsible adult and it wasn't satisfying enough.

All the time!! I plan out the day ahead in my head too. I can’t imagine not!! My mind never fucking stops 😭 I always try to think of what other people are thinking about me way too often and I wish I’d not 😭

Mine doesn’t stop I swear I have a radio show going on in my head because I can hear my voice talking in my head and then I’ll have different songs playing in my head too 😂

And also, no! I’m not really aware of my thoughts at all, they’re way too fast for me to actually “follow”. I didn’t know people really had a voice inside their head! I wonder if it correlates with talking to yourself, which i’ve never done but a lot of my friends do

that makes sense! i’ve been trying to “catch” my thoughts all day to see if I have an internal monologue, but every time I think about it I feel like I’m messing them up! It’s like meditation i guess

I identify with the thoughts being too fast or too many to follow, which is why I sometimes talk to myself: it helps me pin one train of thought down.
