Noisy Dog and Newborn
So I have a pug and anytime someone gets up in the middle of the night, gets a drink of water in the kitchen, uses the bathroom, etc. she goes absolutely nuts and starts whining and digging/scratching in her kennel. We keep our two dogs in their kennels at night, on the other end of our home. (Master bedroom is on the back end of the house, while kennels are placed in the front den area next to the two other bedrooms we have).
My larger mixed lab is fine and quiet. But the pug gets worked up hearing any noise at all and starts throwing a fit. We’ve tried to scold her, we’ve moved her kennel to another area, we covered her kennel with a blanket...nothing works. My husband and I are beginning to worry this will be a huge issue when our baby arrives next month. Obviously baby’s wake up consistently through the night, for quite a while. So we’re afraid anytime the baby wakes up, my pug will start her antics and make more noise keeping us awake and the baby awake. And functioning off of little to no sleep will make dealing with the pug that much harder.
My husband suggested a shock collar, but I don’t agree with those and after more research on them, I don’t feel comfortable using those. It seems mean to me, plus they aren’t meant to be used over night or for long periods of time.
We’re at a loss of what to do. Our pug has a personality and mind of her own. She sucks at listening unless treats are involved. She needs to sleep through the night. It’s been three years that we’ve had her. And the issue never has resolved.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to deal with a pet like this during the night?
