When can you hear the heartbeat

Question

Can you hear the heartbeat at 10 weeks4 days on a doppler? Wondering if my appt is just pointless or not.

Yes you can find the heartbeat with Doppler at 10 weeks, but it can be hard to find. 
My doctors office does a dating scan between 6-8 weeks using transvaginal ultrasound, and then no planned ultrasounds until 20 weeks (if you are low risk). 
However, at the 2nd appointment (9-11weeks), if they can’t find the heartbeat with the Doppler then they will check with a quick ultrasound.  That is what happened with my first baby.

My doctors don’t do the the heartbeat on the Doppler until 16 weeks because it can be hard to find and they don’t see the point in worrying mothers if they can’t find it (or at least that’s what one of the midwives told me). 8 weeks they only do a urine confirmation, 12 weeks you see the heartbeat on an ultrasound, and 16 weeks for a Doppler. I know it’s possible to hear it well before 16, but it can be tricky.
