Advice for Dogs and New Baby?

Hey ladies! I have some very loving and super attached to mom shelter doggies and have tried to read up on the articles about introducing dogs and baby but wanted to see if anyone had any advice? It probably doesn’t help that my husband is deployed until I’m about 39 weeks (cutting it SO close!) so they just have me at home!

I’m a FTM and my OB told me for someone to bring a blanket from the hospital that the baby was wrapped up in for the dog to smell before the baby arrives home the next day! So while me and my baby boy are at the hospital, my husband is going to do that so both my dogs start getting to know his scent before hes home 😊😊

I totally over thought this with my first, it was like my biggest source of anxiety 😂 my golden retriever acted like it was no big deal when we brought baby home, like the baby had been there all along, nothing really changed except our dog had someone else to love on. Our son is 2.5 now and it’s always just been easy, neither get jealous, both get attention, it’s like our dog just understood it all somehow 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Also have two dogs who love to be with us at all times. I’ve heard that even just setting aside 5 minutes a day to give them your full attention can be super helpful. That way they aren’t feeling totally neglected.

This was something I was very worried about when my husband and I had our first child. Weeks before our daughter arrived, we used a life-like doll around the house to get our boxer used to our  baby. We would use our daughter's blanket, boppy pillow, baby items with the doll so that our boxer would get used to seeing us carrying the "baby", holding the "baby", etc.  We also laid the "baby" on the ground with her blanket and boppy while we allowed our boxer to get close, smell her items and get familiar with how close she could be to our "baby". Once we brought our daughter home, we had no problems at all! I don't know if it was because we did those things or if I was totally overthinking it from the start. My boxer was my first baby and she was always very gentle but it was just her size that I was worried about compared to our baby girl. The two of them became best buds quickly and lasted until our boxer passed when my daughter was 2 years old. Good luck!!!

I had the same query! My dachshunds are OBSESSED with me and follow me around like a shadow. 
I did a bit of research and encouraging slow introductions is key. This can be done with the blanket method, supervising your pup sniffing around the baby and encouraging safe boundaries. 
I also found a product, I think it’s called Door Buddy? It’s a strap that you put on your door to keep the dog out of the nursery when you’re busy with the baby or if you dontwant them going in. This seemed like an awesome way to get my dogs familiar with little man’s scent before fully introducing the two 😊
