Well think about how important your friendship is and if it's worth the risk of possibly ruining it if you guys date. Back in high school I was best friends with this guy and when I told him how I felt things got awkward because he didn't look at me as gf material but more as a sister. We're no longer friends. So really think if it's worth it. Although for some it works great but for others it doesn't
