Hyperemesis gravidarum

Lilli

So, I just thought there wasn’t enough people mentioning this condition on here. I’m 14 weeks and 1 and I’ve been suffering with hyperemesis from about 6 weeks. With this being my first pregnancy I thought being sick 3+ times a day was just ‘morning sickness’ and I thought feeling nauseous from the second I woke up until the second I fell asleep was a normal way to feel during pregnancy. I was going to work everyday, feeling like death coping with hypersensitivity to smells and struggling every single second of the day.

When I spoke about this to a lot of people including my husband I was met with ‘try ginger’ or ‘eat small amounts often’. THIS DOES NOT HELP HYPEREMISIS.

Eventually I dragged myself to the doctors, was admitted into the ward and given anti sickness medication and fluids intravenously this really saved me as I was severely dehydrated but most importantly it made me feel like I wasn’t losing my mind.

Don’t think that just because you’re pregnant it’s normal to feel like death. Listen to your body, and listen to your concerns. Signs of hyperemesis aren’t just severe vomiting, it’s also prolonged nausea and vomiting, hypersensitivity to smells and tastes that means you really struggle to eat or drink anything, aswell as the obvious repeated vomiting.

I hope this helps someone and makes they’re pregnancy a little easier.
