Question

Your allowed to wear nighties during labor or no.? Even if it's a button down one...

Just the thought of wearing a hospital gown for 24 + hrs is donting to me...

Depends on your hospital. Many require you to wear their gowns...in case of emergency they know where all the buttons/straps etc are and don’t have to fool with cutting your nightgown off of you. Their gowns are also typically more conducive to monitoring etc. 
but again. Every hospital is different so you’ll just have to check with yours.

I wear gown for labor & delivery and wear a nightie (strap loose gown) afterwards. Easy pull down for nursing and easy access for nurses to come in to check bottom. Plus more comfortable.

You’ll need a gown that buttons front and back and has the ability to allow skin to skin (e.g. can be pulled down without interference - buttons on shoulders would work). They need an easy way to put in an epidural/spinal tap in your back in case of emergency and baby will need to be monitored (usually the belly wrap monitor but they have others I believe) so buttons to make that easier will be a must. If you’re breastfeeding same thing about being pulled downwards (buttons on shoulders kind of thing). Otherwise they will put you in a hospital gown. You can always call your hospital and specifically ask what you can wear instead of the hospital gown. Amazon, etsy, etc have gowns specifically for labor that meet most requirements. I bought one for my first and absolutely loved it. It had everything they requested so I didn’t have to wear the thin hospital gown. I plan to do the same for my second.

I wear the hospital gown for labor and delivery because of all the fluid/water breaking/blood. Most of the time, I had to change the gown a few times before I actually delivered. Plus, they need the gown to open in the back and unstap at the shoulders so that they can take it off even if you have an IV in. But right after delivery, I shower and then put on a nursing nightgown. I love putting the nightgown on because I feel freshened up, it’s more comfortable, and then if people take pictures you will feel like you look half decent
