Cleaning trash from bottom of neighbors yard?

Question

My neighbors and I share a patch of woods. One neighbors part is covered with trash (as well as their yard). I was cleaning up my yard and picked up some garbage from their part of the woods. Do you think this is fine, since its cleaning up litter? Or is it trespassing? I only picked up a few big pieces.... but I could definitely go back and pick up a ton more including broken glass. 
Their whole yard is a trash pit, but I can’t see it from my house. I’m not going to knock on their door and ask for permission.

I would call the city and report it. Just because it’s their property doesn’t mean they can treat it like a giant trash can.

I wouldn’t be picking up their trash. I would build a fence in between so if they want to be nasty then it’s all in their yard.

It's fine. I'd be grateful if my yard was a pigsty and a neighbor helped out a bit. People get pissed over the strangest things. I know my yard looked ugly for a year bc my husband's friend had his car parked in my driveway. If a neighbor had offered to tow it for free, damn right I would've accepted and not been offended. Don't act like your shit isn't nasty then get pissed when someone calls you out.🤷‍♀️

I would honestly put up a fence along the property line and move on. They shouldn’t leave it a dump, but it’s not really your responsibility to clean up after them.

If you are comfortable talk to them first. If they are not helpful call and report it. Kids and pets play outside and it’s dangerous to have broken glass everywhere.

I’d probably ask first because I’m slightly traumatized from something similar. One of our neighbors had a bunch of lumber and other things of that nature in the woods and all of the woods at my moms were connected. We thought someone threw it back there because they didn’t want it. So my siblings, cousins, and I took it and started building shit with it. He saw my brother take it and we got in so much trouble. So now I don’t touch anyone’s stuff even if I think it’s trash.
