Lip tie?

Is this a lip tie?
I'm concerned because her Grandfather and his brother (my fiance's side) have a mild lisp. But I can't tell the difference between a normal one and a tie. Should I wait until 12 months?

Everyone has a frenulum. The degree to which it is tied would be how restricted the movement and flexibility is. Most that have a lip tie also have a tongue tie which would be more likely to cause a lisp but not guaranteed to do so. I would recommend talking to your ped if it's a concern. Tongue and lip ties can relate to food aversions, slow weight gain, etc. Many people have them have lived normal lives so it just depends on the degree. Hope that helps.

My baby had trouble nursing when she was born. The doctors and about 8 lactation consultants all missed her lip tie. It is mild but I feel that it was the reason she couldnt latch, couldn't hold a paci and had trouble with a bottle. Now she can do all those things so the pediatrician says to leave the lip tie until her teeth come in. She says people get them corrected prematurely. So if baby is eating fine, I would just mention it to the pediatrician to see what they say, but not to worry too much about it just yet. My baby's looks like that but I'm not sure if just looking at it can determine a lip tie. I would ask her doctor at her next appointment. Good luck!

The doctors usually check for this at their check ups. I think they would have told you by now if they were concerned!
