When are you starting maternity leave?

Im in California and with my first I didnt start leave until 2 days before my due date and felt rushed. I was planning on taking the full 4 weeks you get on SDI prior to due datebut cant pull the trigger for some reason! Tell me your plans!

Already have! Germany has mandatory maternity leave starting at 34 weeks and I took an additional 3 weeks of vacation beforehand so I’ve basically been on leave since last week :) I’m 32+3 today.

I’m in PA. We have no special rights to a maternity leave here. FMLA protects my job for 12 weeks. I will take 1 day off before the baby comes, so I have a full 12 weeks with her when she gets here.

I even made screenshots and posted it in EU forum. I understand that probably majority of who voted are in states. It’s extremely upsetting how women are treated in terms of maternity leave in USA. I understand that to expect 3 years of paid maternity leave while employer obliged to keep your job is maybe another extreme (in most Eastern European countries), but at least fully paid 6 month or a year, with normal 4-6 weeks before start date it should be a norm in every country. Otherwise I just do not get what people are paying taxes for.

With my first, I had a scheduled induction on a Sunday. Worked until the Friday before that. 
This time I plan to work until I either go into labor (fingers crossed for a successful vbac) or have a c section scheduled. (They won't let me go past my due date since I had to have a c section last time and I can't be induced.)
I wish I could take a week or two prior because it's so rough working those last few weeks. But I'm going to be taking leave with 60% pay so I'm not sure if we can afford for me to be off the full 12 weeks. I don't want to waste any protected time off beforehand unless I medically have to.

Due April 2, started leave yesterday (also in California). And won’t go back until August. My first pregnancy I went 3 weeks before but with a 4 year old I thought I would take all the time left with just her and I. Let me tell you - it feels so good to be off, one less thing to worry about. 😃

I started mine a week ago at 32 weeks due to gestational diabetes and have to meet ob and high risk doctor twice a week.

I start working from home on Monday, 3/9 (36 weeks) & will work until labor.

You get the 4 weeks No matter what so just take it. Make sure you have maternity leave or LOA or family leave at your job. I already got my leave approved for March 22 and i am due April 19. I didnt qualify for family leave cause I took so many leaves because I was sick when we were doing stims and IUI but thankfully my job has maternity leave. You cant actually file for the SDI until your 1st day off. It is a use it or lose it so I would take it.

My job gives me disability during pregnancy since I cant perform my job duties so I stopped working before Christmas and go back 12 weeks after baby
