Using thumb / finger comfort?

Question

We only breast feed 
She’s 12 weeks and is chomping on her hand she gets quite upset when she can’t reach her hand to her mouth when in car seat or pram 
Debating if now we should introduce a dummy 
I only worry she will use that more then feed i worry as currently I’m like right she’s been fed, nappy done she’s Cryin because she’s tired but if she had a dummy would I miss signs?

Ah she's trying to self sooth maybe? I wish I hadn't let my mum introduce the dummy so early for my baby boy but I rarely use it when I'm soothing him. He's discovered his hands now so he prefers to stick his hand in his mouth.
If you haven't introduced it yet, there's probably no need and I've been told that babies soothing on their hands is much better as they can learn to self sooth at night and fall back to sleep.

My son is 8 months but has been putting his fingers in his mouth and chewing on them for as long as I can remember. He also doesn’t have a dummy and I have no plans to introduce one. 
I’ve found with my son that he only puts his hand in his mouth if there isn’t a toy to chew on, so maybe try providing a teething toy to see if that helps. It is normal for a baby to put their hands in their mouth though since it’s a good way for them to explore. 
If baby is actively sucking their thumb, that’s when you might want to introduce a dummy but otherwise I wouldn’t bother since you’ve got this far without one.

If you have got this far without a dummy I wouldn’t introduce one. My son hasn’t had one but he does chew his hands. It could be her teeth are starting to move around, or she’s exploring her hand more with her mouth etc.
