Could she be pregnant?! Pregnancy/TTC experts needed?

I'm stumped here. I thought I knew everything about TTC but I'm really not sure if this is possible:
My best friend texted me yesterday saying she had this feeling she may be pregnant. She said she feels unusually tired no matter how much sleep she gets, and she's been super dizzy and nauseous and moody. Based on that, I told her it couldn't hurt to take a test and asked her if she had gotten her period. Here's where it gets complicated.
She says she's been on birth control, but she doesn't always take it at the same time everyday. She's in a long distance relationship, and she read that you can start your new pack of birth control pills right away instead of taking your sugar pills so you skip your period. She apparently asked her doctor and she said it was fine but not to do it too often. So she did it because she was seeing her boyfriend that weekend. She said she uses a period tracker and has weird cycles and it's said sometimes before she went on birth control that she'd be ovulating near her period.
Okay so that was a ton of information and it confused me as well when she said it.
To sum up:
- She's on birth control, but doesn't take it at the same time each day so I would say it isn't completely effective.
- She had sex when she was supposed to be taking her sugar pills (meaning her period was coming soon)
- She was taking actual pills to skip that period however because her LDR bf was visiting.
I don't know what to tell her because my cycles have always been pretty regular, I know some people ovulate at different times of their cycles but I didn't know you could ovulate near/on your period? don't know what other advice to give her. I used to be on birth control a year ago but I didn't use it to skip my period so I'm not sure if that even works? So my question is, is it possible for her to he pregnant and should I tell her to take a test?
