Race being a social construct

I have gone back and forth on posting this because CC is not in the greatest place, but I have time today. In this weeks chapter in my intro to sociology class, we go over racial and ethnic inequality. In this chapter, it says race is a social construct because we make up what these races consist of, as in we make these features be black features or white features. It was a very interesting section to say the least. I was just wondering what you guys believe and do you understand why it may be seen as this way? I'm conflicted because although I see that side of it, I just feel like it opens the door to all of the "I can be a certain race if I want" people. Also how do you feel about the terms "one drop rule" and "Black blood"? Also I will delete if this goes anywhere it shouldn't. Do not ruin this for everyone else.
