Not having cervical checks?

I found out yesterday that at my 36 week appointment this week my midwife won’t be doing a cervical Check and apparently doesn’t do them unless I’m having painful contractions or am in active labor. 
Is this normal? I was hoping to see if we were moving along or not and now I’m bummed that I won’t know.

Yep. Normal. Being dialated before labor means nothing

They don't do the checks because they are not necessary unless something is happening. 
My birth class recommended getting checked twice during the whole process of having a baby: when you first get to the hospital and when you are about to push.
Less checks reduce chances of infection.

Mine has small hands so she couldn’t check even if she wanted to. But she encouraged my partner to check if it made me more comfortable to know.

Not been checked yet and it hasn't been mentioned at all. 37  weeks along.

my midwife does not check either, midwives are more hands off and less invasive and to me having someone sticking their fingers in my whoha is very invasive. dilation means nothing you can be 3 centimeters for weeks without going into labor.

If you have gloves at home you can try to get your partner to check you, dont do it often though. But it's very common for midwives to not check you as they dont want to start up anything that isnt ready to be started

Mines checked because I had complaints of light bleeding and mucus like discharge. I was 2 cm dilated and 70% effaced on Tuesday ☺️
