Women must go into labor alone in NYC ??? 😰

This is making me sad. And this is the hospital that I go to for OBGYN and where I will give birth. What are your thoughts on this? Any words of encouragement? Hopefully this is over by June.

I don't understand how this is allowed, the father at least has a right to advocate for their baby. Also the CDC and WHO said people should be allowed at least 1 support person, especially when said support person has most likely been quarantined with the mother the whole time? It doesn't make sense.

I live in NJ and will deliver in PA. I saw this and started crying immediately and got 0 sleep last night. They cannot allow this to happen in NY or anywhere else. I have anxiety and do not know how I will get through this without my husband. A woman needs a support person In the hospital to advocate for her and to help make decisions when she’s in pain and unable to think as clearly! Hospitals can easily take advantage of a woman alone and try unnecessary interventions to speed things up etc. this is a nightmare.

If it helps, my friend works on the L&D floor in Los Angeles, California and we were talking about this the other day. She said they implemented this rule so moms were all alone but they lifted it just recently so now they are allowed one support person in L&D,  NICU and pediatrics. LA has a high rate for people testing positive still... I fear that this will happen where I am but I’m trying to stay positive and think that it could be better by the end of May/June, especially if they lifted it in the hospital she works in LA.

I just had a cry session about this. Multiple NYC hospitals are following this policy now. As of yesterday, it was 1 support person at my hospital, now it’s none. I imagine it will be the entire tristate area soon, so how do we even find alternatives? And what if birthing centers start doing the same thing? I’m crossing my fingers that this changes by June, but I’m not hopeful. 
I’m imagining many women will birth at home even if higher risk. Women will labor at home longer than they should, leave hospitals early and have no medical care at home, and no one will get to see lactation consultants. It isn’t a good policy for moms, babies or their families. 
I do trust our medical professionals and want them to stay healthy. But they’ll have to explain the logic behind this. If a partner has Covid, its very likely the mother has it too. How exactly does it help?

I hate the idea of him not being there through my labor and those first precious moments with our son. BUT if this is what the hospital officials and all the infectious disease specialists say is what’s safest for me, my baby, and all the staff then he will be FaceTimed in from the parking lot. We’ve had the conversation and neither of us love it but I value everyone’s safety over my ideal birth plan.

Look into birth centers! You have other options in the city. We lived right on 8th street when I was pregnant with my first and I can’t imagine having to have birthed without my husband. Sending hugs, mama!

Currently the hospital I'm laboring at allows a partner but no other visitors. This can change and I hope not. I need my husband by my side I suffer from low blood platelets and bled out when I birthed my daughter he was by my side then and needs to be by my side now. I also read there's a shortage of blood. my husband is able to donate blood to me in case i need a transfusion. I'm due in june and so much can happen. I hope things get under control and better.
