Car seat experts?

Question

Any car seat experts on here? Does anyone know if the car seat protectors (the ones you attach to your seat and set car seat on) add any additional risk? I know that you shouldn’t use any after market products in the car seat and would assume this means seat protectors too? Just wanted to make sure! If it matters, we have the Uppababy Mesa. TIA!

My best friend is a certified car seat lady and she tells me everything. She says anything added is a no. No pads, no clip on toys. She won’t even let her kids or mine have a cup or a toy unless it’s totally one hundred percent plush because the hard parts can cause a lot of harm in the event there is a collision. Whatever the car seat comes with is going to totally safe as it is and I would not suggest adding anything at all.

It does matter on type of mat and brand of car seat. But many of them mask a good install and aren’t safe. Car seats for the littles -as mentioned above - is a great source of info. Listening to you local fire or police dept. is not a reliable source as most are not certified and don’t know what they’re talking about.

I would take a picture of it and message it to the admin of the Facebook page Car seats for Littles. I don’t post publicly there because members can get aggressive but the admin are helpful. 
Unfortunately people who work at the hospital, police station, and fire station are often not certified car seat technicians, so I don’t trust them.

Definitely not an “expert”, but the fire department and hospital both checked out car seat installation for safety and said it looked great and didn’t say anything about the pad.

As long as it’s not adding bulk to the underside or stopping the seat from completely being strapped in, it shouldn’t be a problem.

It depends on the car seat manufacturer, and possibly even on each car seat. I would read the manual that came with your seat. I know the seat we had said it was okay as long as it was still installed properly and met their guidelines
