Castor oil?

Has anyone tried this to help with labor? Also I thought I could try it because I have been 'a little backed up' lately to?! And how much do you take? I'm 37 weeks

I totally think it works!  Maybe try doing both prune juice and castor oil?

Castor oil only works if you're already dilated to an extent and effaced. I have tried castor oil every week since 37 weeks.. I'm 39 weeks and 5days now.. It hasn't helped. I know it does help some women. Only take 1 tablespoon every few hours unless you want major diarrhea.. So 1 tablespoon every 3-4 hours with orange juice or something... However the most effective thing for me has been sex. Sperm has something in it that softens the cervix.

Castor oil can be a good alternative to medical induction if you are overdue and want to avoid the hospital. I used it so that I could have a home birth. I was 42.5 and 3cm dilated and it still required multiple doses to keep it going over the course of the labour. I also got diarea but for me it was worth it.  I would only do it under the guidance of a Midwife or health professional. 
I had a successful natural birth of a beautiful 8lb 2 Oz boy 22 hrs after I started the castor oil cocktail and about 12 hrs of active labour.

It DOES NOT work. Oh my gosh, worst mistake I made. I drank the entire bottle, and almost threw up over it. I would not and do not recommend it.
