So I’m posting this because I want to help bring awareness to you all so that this doesn’t happen to you!

Me and my now fiancée have been together for 5 years. My fiancée has always gotten cold sores on his mouth, which I’m sure a lot of you know, cold sores are caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). Now about a year ago I contracted herpes from him via oral sex! This is because he had a cold sore and we had oral sex.. which then passed the herpes simplex to me.

Most commonly, herpes simplex, is sores around the mouth and lips. However HSV-1 can also cause genital herpes. Which is what I have been diagnosed with by my doctor. So basically I get “cold sores” in my private parts! Not fun.

When I opened up to a couple of friends about this, I was surprised by how many of them, including myself, had no idea that you could get herpes from someone with a cold sore by having oral sex!

Please ladies just be aware if your partner has a cold sore. NO ORAL SEX!
