Should we go?

Question

My son has his 1 month follow up visit scheduled for tomorrow and I'm thinking about canceling it. It's just a wellness visit and no shots will be given until his 2 month appointment. What are you ladies doing for your appointments? I don't want to expose him to anything plus we live in NJ and covid19 is spreading like crazy.

I skipped ours. It me it’s not worth it. It’s also our third baby, I can tell he’s gaining weight and growing, so I’m not concerned about that. He also had no health conditions and is very happy in general. If he was having any issues I’d call in or go to it. We live 30 hours away from our closest family. If my husband or I catch that virus we have no support and would be totally screwed. We are taking every precaution not to get it.

Our ped changed our one month to a 6 week. We're doing a nurse visit for up to 2 mo shots and weight etc. Then we'll have a video appointment with the ped to discuss everything.

We went to her 1 month, she was due for her second hep B shot and I had some questions. My office moved all well visits to the afternoon session and staggered appointments so there was only 1 patient coming in the doors and was brought to the exam room immediately. I would call to be sure, if no shots need to be given then you can always do telehealth.

I also live in NJ. As of right now, we are still going to ours, but I do have some questions for the dr. I would call and ask your dr their opinion/advice and then discuss it with your partner and go from there.

Absolutely call your dr! I was so nervous to bring my 2 week old to the dr, but she was in the nicu and had a referral for a heart murmur and I was concerned about her weight, so I didn’t have a choice I needed her to see the dr.
I was slightly relieved when I went in, there were only two other newborns there and they weren’t seeing sick kids there, just at their walk in clinic.

My son has his first visit with a pediatrician on Saturday and he'll be 2 weeks old. Because we did a homebirth he has only been seen by my midwife so far and I want to be sure everything is ok with him. Our office is seeing healthy patients in the morning and sick patients later in the day and we have a super early appointment so I'm feeling pretty good about it. My husband won't be allowed in though and will have to wait in the car.

I would find it what your doctor is doing to keep the office as clean as possible. Ours is only coming in Wednesday mornings for 4 hours and just seeing newborns. Everyone else is virtual. 
I still don’t want to go either but they have to make sure the baby is gaining weight and check their lungs and heart one more time. Then I think we get a big break until the next appointment.

Our doctor had us go as he wanted to be sure baby was gaining enough weight since birth. He let us skip the next visit until he has his shots after that. I would call and ask if it’s absolutely necessary for them. Every doctor is different on what they deem necessary.

If you dont have any questions or concerns for your doctor i would just cancel it. All of my appointments have been cancel and turned into "over the phone appointments"
