When and can you ask to be induced?

So I'm due on the 27th of November. But my doctor says I may not make it to the 27th. I'll be 39 weeks the week of Thanksgiving. Could you be induced in that 39th week? Has anyone been induced or asked to be induced earlier than their due date?

It's not good to induce with out medical reason until after 40 weeks. Some Drs may still do it but they have to find a reason to chart as insurance purposes there is no code for "patient asked" talk to your dr. Maybe he/she can think of something.

If you are having complications they will induce earlier. But just something to think about induction leads to higher risk for emergency c section and actually for most women is more intense labor pain than natural birth so if there is no reason medically to be induced you may want to reconsider. A girl I know chose to be induced because she wanted to pick the birthday and then the meds stopped working and she stopped progressing and had to have a c section. Just some things to think about before you make your decision. I hope these next few weeks fly by for you and a healthy easy labor!!

If you are electively being induced the earliest they (usually) will do it is 39 weeks. My due date is 11/30 but have chosen to be induced on 11/23 at 39 weeks. They've said unless I medically have to be induced they won't do it until 39 weeks. I hope this helps

I'm due December first and am being induced on November 24th at 39 weeks.  It's been in my plan from day one. Only because my last pregnancy ended in a still birth during my third trimester.  But it's okay to ask. I would ask around 36/37 weeks.  Some Drs are completely okay with it.

I asked my doctor and he said I could have asked at 39 weeks, it was already 39 weeks 6 days when I asked so she came on her due date. I would have had her earlier if I'd known because she was born at 9 lbs 9 oz

You can ask but usually they will only do it for medical reasons.

Also you should discuss with your insurance many will charge a lot more for a not medically necessitated induction.

Doctors here won't do an elective induction unless you are 40w5d at least since EDDs can be off by a couple of weeks.

My ob wont induce till your 39 weeks.. but wvwryone is diffrent... they waited to induce me at 39 weeks

I had to be induced two days early with my son. The induction gel makes the contractions a lot more violent than if I'd gone naturally. I wouldn't recommend it unless it's necessary.
