Thoughts on extended breastfeeding?

Why or why not? I've read a lot of good about it and it seems that there are so many benefits, but there is so much controversy around this topic. What are everyone's feelings?

I will breastfeed as long as my babies want. The first one weaned himself at 13mo, second one going strong at 7mo. 
Whatever works for baby and mama. The WHO recommends 2 years and BEYOND!

I don’t personally care what any other mums do, it’s their body their choice. I personally don’t want to breastfeed past 12months i just would like it but if other mums are happy to do it good for them

I refuse to go past 1 year. Just a personal thing. I would stop at 6m if I could but choosing to go to a year. I hate breastfeeding.

WHO and the American Association of Pediatrics reccomend at LEAST two years and however long is mutually desired beyond that. Obviously it's a personal choice and needs to mutual upfront. So with that said, I am personally making the decision to bf as long as we can.. I've done the research and the neurological, emotional, shared immunity benefits are astounding. It gives a both an anchor for our relationship and ohmygosh it's hard/inconvenient/unwelcomed at times, but literally everything about a baby/toddler can be that at times. It's amazing to me how my milk changes to meet her needs at each stage and never becomes a waste. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant nursing a 22 month old. If you're wanting some literature on it I highly recommend the Womanly Art of Breastfeeding -it's a La Leche Book and it is such a supportive and open minded book it talks about everything from how to incorporate bottles and nipple shields and early weaning to overcoming nursing strikes and extended breastfeeding and the benefits of each stage while never shaming a mother for doing or not doing something.

My personal feeling is that there is no need to BF after a year. That's a completley personal view....obviously whatever someone else chooses to do with their bodies and babies is their business. There is no right or wrong.
Unless you are still BFing and your kid is 8. That's a little wierd then. 🤣

I personally wont continue breastmilk after 1 year. I also plan on mostly pumping so they'll get used to the bottle instead of the breast, it's way easier later when transitioning to sippy cups.
