Workers Walking Out: People with Special Needs

Edit 2: Keep in mind this is a Canadian post, we have different rights and laws. Also from other articles it is clear the union stepped in to ensure staff are protected and not reprimanded if they don't feel safe. Everyone has the right to keep themselves and their families safe.

Edit: I just want to say, I think right now so many people are making decisions they never thought they would have to make. I really hope we can respect that everyone has different circumstances that would make them come to their decision and try not to berate one another.

What do you guys think of this? I've worked with people who have special needs for years and have different ways to protect myself, I have the option to be 6 feet away or not go into work. I can't imagine having to do care without PPE during this time with people who honestly may not understand social distancing.

It's really hard for me because I'm so passionate about my work with this population, but at the same time my work is so different from a personal support worker or a developmental service worker. I don't have the same perspective, and if I didn't have PSWs or DSWs my work wouldn't be possible.
