Repackage frozen chicken?

Question

We get packs of chicken breasts that are frozen with three breasts per package. I hate cooking all three at once and being forced to use it quicker than needed. Can I take a breast or two out and then repackage the other breast in a ziplock freezer bag? I could do this while it is still frozen even?

I wouldn't refreeze it personally, but if you can separate when frozen and place unwanted chicken in the freezer then yes!

Yes I do that sometimes, but I’ll put it in a glass food storage container so it doesn’t stick to the plastic. But that’s just my preference.

As long as it stays frozen you’ll be fine. I do it all the time since I throw 5 legs drumsticks in a bag then I may only need 2 or 3 so I throw them into another bag and back into the freezer

I repackage right when I get home from store. We don’t use that many pieces at once so I pack them individually so I can freeze and take out as needed.

That's what I do. I buy bulk chicken and just portion them out for what I know I generally use in most meals, and vaccume seal each portion and pop them in the deep freezer

Once you defrost you cannot refreeze. If anything, buy a normal pack, break it up into the portions of your choice and then freeze the extra

We do that with any food we buy in a larger portion than we plan on eating in one sitting. We repackage as soon as we get home after buying it.
