Baby registry!?

Oh Lord.
I keep trying to sit down and start a registry and I get so overwhelmed.
I'm starting with Amazon. How the heck do I know what to put on my list? 🙃 I am dying here not being able to go to a store and try things out myself and show things to my husband. I'm not good at this virtual shopping thing

With my first I Pinterest searched the heck out of registry lists and then searched the heck out of things I wish I had/hadn’t registered for. 
Big necessities are
-travel system (car seat that clicks into a stroller)
-bassinet or crib or both. Whatever baby sleeps in. We used the pack and play as the bassinet then moved to the crib. I don’t like buying things that can only be used for a few months. 
-swing
-high chair
Things on the “glad I registered for/wish I registered for” lists are usually things like
-bathtub
-lounger
-breastfeeding pillow
-sound machine/night light 
Common “things I didn’t need”
-Bottle warmer
-wipe warmer
-clothes (people will buy you clothes. Don’t you worry)
Things that are controversial 
-diaper pail (useless in my opinion, we bought a tiny trash can with a foot pedal, stuck a air freshener to the inside of the lid and changed the bag once ever day or other day. Saved $50)
-changing table (loved using ours to clean for blowouts as we had a waterproof cover. Only time I used it tho and sat it on a dresser instead of buying a specific table)
The lists on Pinterest are much more vast but I kind of made my own. Amazon and buy buy baby also have a checklist that helps a little, but also can cause you to register for a lot of unnecessary stuff.

My older sister got me the Baby Bargains book - it’s like a registry Bible / tutorial on all the things you need. They have a website too!! It’s been really helpful.

I think the others have good advice. You can also add postpartum things to your amazon registry after people have purchased/a shower and use the discount on those items (I made a secret list initially and just transferred the data). Only thing I really wish I’d done differently was think about how to adapt for 2 (as our travel system won’t so we will have to buy a different stroller), and that it took me until a year to realize a jogging stroller is amazing for even walks around the neighborhood - the bigger air filled wheels are also good for cutting through grass etc. we did get a sort of diaper pail, but it used regular trash cans so it wasn’t like we were having to buy speciality bags. If you think you might baby wear - a carrier is also great (or sling/wrap for when they’re small) this saved my sanity with my acid reflux baby!

This is my 3rd, but I still use Amazon registry for the discount 🙈 go with the items you NEED first (car seat, stroller, bath tub, crib/bassinet, diapers etc.). Then I add some of the other items that make life easier (nursing pads, diaper rash cream, swaddles, nose frida, monitor, boppy pillow) and once all those are listed, I'll add some extra stuff, like toys, play mats, burp cloth, etc.

My advice would be go with the things you know you need. My sister and her husband put a bunch of random stuff and baby toys on the list and they ended up not getting a lot of what they actually needed unfortunately.
