Lovey?

Question

My little ones been having severe separation anxiety so I’ve been thinking about introducing a lovey. Is it too early? I had it once in his crib with him a mueslin cotton hand size one with an elephant head and he smushed it against his face and terrified me. Suggestions?

Personally our family is choosing not to put anything in baby’s crib until 18+ mos (although AAP says 12mos). For separation anxiety we just give her a TON of attention during the day and have very consistent nap and bedtime routines and the predictability of the routine gives her comfort.

I always remember talking to a woman about babies in Specsavers while waiting for our prescriptions. She said "Does she have a lovey?" And I told her I was thinking of getting one, and she groaned and said "Don't." - apparently her kid got attached to 1 specific lovey which has since got quite dirty and was breaking apart. The daughter took it everywhere and wouldn't let them wash it. Apparently they searched everywhere for a second one and could only find it online for £15 plus import fees 😂 So if you get a lovey, make sure to have a replacement... or 2.

My daughter ended up attaching herself to this blanket. I never intended it to be that way but I do love that when it’s sleep time, she has it to hold and snuggle. 
I know it’s not safe sleep, but we had to pick our battles and roll with it.

My daughter sleeps with a blanket and a lovey in her crib. She has for a few months now.

I just introduced one this week, shes not interested at all until shes actually asleep, then she magically holds it the entire time shes sleeping.

We put it in for his bedtime story and take it out when we leave (or later before we go to bed if he's cuddling / holding it and still awake when we leave the room). Hoping to have the association well-established once it's safe to leave it in there overnight!

My daughter uses a lovey and has since 6 months with her doctors approval! It stays in her crib and she only has it when she’s going to sleep.

We started using these. They’re super thin muslin with satin on the edges. I put two in with him and he switched from his lovey really well. It’s not recommended, but I am ok with it.
