Doppler Placement

This may seem like a stupid question but I’m a first time mom and still learning new things every day.

I used a doppler for the first time this week, and I was expecting to find the heartbeat very very low in my abdomen, which I did, but I feel like I found it way lower than expected for this stage in my pregnancy. I will be 16 weeks in a couple days and I’m finding the heartbeat literally right on top of my crotch lol. I figured my baby would be higher up by now? I know for a fact my baby’s heartbeat was what I was hearing, it was a really strong heartbeat and sounded like a horse galloping .

And other mommas find their baby’s heartbeat in the same area at this point in their pregnancy? Not sure if that’s normal or not.
