I prefer my partner to keep his money instead of spending it on random shit for me. 
But hey, I don’t value “gifts.” I value thoughtfulness and caring. 
Last Tuesday, my partner bought me a laptop stand for my desk. Now that I’ve been working from home for 8 weeks, I had been using a stack of books to raise my laptop to a comfortable height. When he gave it to me, he said, “I know you well enough to know you would never buy this for yourself.”
He was right. I would’ve continued to use that stack of books even though an actual stand is so much better for looks, ergonomics, everything. We’ve been together for years, and it might be only the 3rd “present” he’s given me. 
Those are our values though.
