okay my friend is always trying to make everything a competition. i mean, everything. it’s so bad that she’s competing like.. cultures? Idk how to put it but here’s a story. (I have plenty but this one made me feel weird)

Background: I’m mexican & she’s white

Okay one day we were sitting in the car just hanging out and I was talking about how I get to finally go to mexico (My family could never afford it but finally we were going this year.. but didn’t end up going because of the virus) And I was talking about my culture & how it’s important to me and she literally told me she was more mexican than me. Not joking at all, she was dead serious. I was.. how? Her response was “It’s because I studied abroad for 6 months in a spanish speaking country and I listen to spanish music”. I said that doesn’t make you mexican.. she didn’t even go to mexico..? It was really weird. She’s always trying to become mexican. it’s 100% okay to love a culture but you can’t tell me that you’re more mexican than me because you listen to music or studied abroad. Anyways.. is that kind of rude that I got upset? Is it not that big of a deal? It was just weird. I’m sorry if this is controversial.
