is it normal for babies not to eat much with blw?

For example. My son will eat anywhere from 1/4-1/2 of a small pancake and maybe 3 slices of banana for breakfast. This is the higher end of how he eats, and this will only be if I feed it to him afterhe wouldn't. If he's left to feed himself (which I always do, I only step in if he hasn't eaten much at all) he doesn't eat much at all. He is 9 months, and I'm just not sure if it's normal that he won't eat a lot by himself? Only when I step in?

I really dont think theres any set “normal”. Babies all grow at different speeds and they all have their individual personalities that play into things too! 
My baby is 10m and has been doing BLW since she was 6m. She eats like its nobody’s business and yet shes is on the smaller side. She will eat a whole meal and then drink a bottle of breastmilk too when she’s at her grandmas house. 
I have noticed that appetite does fluctuate a bit. As long as your baby is growing, try not to worry too much. They say how much they eat doesnt really matter at this age.

My baby went through a phase like this around 8/9 months. He’s ten months old now and eats like there’s no tomorrow. I’d say keep offering foods like you are and they’ll eventually get used to feeding themselves. We want our babies to establish a positive relationship with food so keep listening to them! When my baby says he’s done, I stop offering foods even if he’s only eaten a little. You could also try offering the same foods in various forms (e.g., peas whole, smashed, or mashed) to see if they prefer certain textures. Also, when are you offering solids? After or before they get milk/formula? I was nursing my babe before his solid meals and my pediatrician recommended offering milk after his solid meals instead as baby might be full when presenting him with solid food options. As long as they’re getting plenty of milk/formula outside of solid meals, I’d say it’s nothing to be concerned about but it never hurts to bring your concerns up with your pediatrician to ease your worries!
