Working for DHS?

Does anyone here work for DHS? I want to become a social worker and work for DHS, and help abused children. Does anyone have experience with that job? What are your likes/dislikes? Do you recommend it? Thanks 😃

It's definitely hard, you see things that is heartbreaking. They do require that you have some psychology college courses here. I'm not sure what area you are at. I do say, if you have the heart for these little ones, then it's worth it all💜.

Its NOT easy, its hard, its tough and you carry baggage home with you that you cant talk about to anyone, theres times your hands are tied and it will hreak your heart. It will break your heart to see how cruel and stupid parents can be. Your heart will break over and over again, the pay sucks, long hours

Social worker here 👋🏻. It is very emotionally demanding, so much so that I feel like I don’t have a lot of compassion to give to my family and friends. They call it compassion fatigue. It is very rewarding but there will always be a struggle between getting your job done and having work/life balance. The pay is terrible. The families you work with don’t want to work with you. I think social work is great, and I think child welfare is great.... but honestly I would recommend looking into a sub contracted agency of DHS. They have some more flexibility and still closely work with families and children.
