Ex issues

So my ex and I had broken up almost 2 months ago and while I was going through the stages of the breakup and doing the NC, it was really hard but after I while I caved and ended up texting him. He didn’t respond till like two weeks later and said he was thinking about me and asked how I was. I thought this was positive. We talked for a few days and I ended up going to see him. We live about 2 hours away from each other. We had lunch and talked and he said that while he didn’t want us to be gf/bf again that we should take it slow but that he still loves me and is in love with me, and in due time that could be a possibility again for us. That was 2 weeks ago today. I don’t understand what happened. When I got back home that day I texted him that I made it home safely after the 2 hours drive back home but he didn’t respond and then about 3 days later I texted him to see how he was but still no response. I haven’t spoken to him since and haven’t sent any more texts or tried calling him. Why would he tell me those things and say that it was okay for me to come all the way out and see him and then just leave again? Our breakup wasn’t terrible but we did have communication issues and other stuff, but I poured my heart out to him and I just feel stupid and like nothing after this. I know he’s still alive and well because we have mutual friends but I’m confused. Idk ik most people will tell me to give up but how can I when I still love him deeply
