Not period or human baby related but its an emergency

Since the coronavirus situation started my roommates cats mated n delivered kittens, one which i have had in my possession for almost 2 weeks. But today after some problems with the roommates arose, they want us to pay for the kitten. The thing is, the parents of the kitten were taken off the street and were never vaccinated an obviously not spayed n neutered. So my question is should i have to pay them for a kitten they already gave me for free and ive already spent money buying him food and toys? Not to mention he already bonded with us n vice versa.
