Is it possible to go into labor after being only 1cm?

I had a doctors appointment today and they told me I was 1cm dilated. It’s been hours now and I’m having some pain in my back and consistent contractions. Is it possible to be going into labor when I was just 1cm this morning?

Girl, I went from completely closed. Not dilated AT all to having a baby within the same 48 hour period. Conversely, some women walk around at 3cm or a bit more for weeks. Keep timing the contractions. If they get closer together, remain consistent, and you have difficulty talking through them, call your doc and head in.bi always followed the 5/1/1 rule. Yes. Dilation means absolutely nothing before labor and that’s why I don’t get checked. You could be 4cm for weeks or 1cm and give birth that night.

Yes! With my first baby my water broke on it’s own and when I got to the hospital I was only dilated 1.5 cm. From the time my water broke until he was born was 11hrs.
