Boyfriend wants to buy house only under his name?

Question

So my bf and I are at the point where we want to buy a house instead of paying other people’s houses off through renting. 
Anyways, he’s been saying that he’s going to apply just under his name . Saying he will see how much they will allow him to borrow etc. and I think because he will be putting in his savings (inheritance ) for the deposit as I don’t have much. 
 if he buys it under his name and I’m paying it off as well because obviously our bills are split, I feel like I’d want to buy it with him? I just feel like we are a couple and we are wanting a family together so why not? 
I feel like if he buys it under his name only then I’ve missed out on the opportunity to go through that first home purchase with my partner in crime. Even though technically I’ll be going through it with him but on paper I’m not ? And I can’t officially say it’s my house that I’ve purchased ? 
And I don’t want everything to be like “his home” not “ours” , especially when we have kids because that’s just weird. If I’m with someone And we live in a house together , I’d like to call it our home and not just his. 
Anyone have any advice ? Anyone’s partners have your home under a loan under just their name or just yours ?

You guys are not married, whatever money you put towards it you will not get back or anything. So if your going to do it grt an attorney draw up a legaly binding contract that if you break up he must pay you whatever you contribute towards the down payment etc.

I put in the full deposit (inheritance) but both mine and my partner's name are on the house. If we were to break up, we did it through a solicitor where I get the full deposit amount back before the rest is split evenly. Speak to him about doing this. I don't think it's right to only have one name on the house if you're serious about the relationship and will both be paying the mortgage and bills

If he’s not comfortable with you on the loan yet when you get married you can always refinance and add you to the loan🤷🏼‍♀️

I understand both sides. I'm buying a condo with my boyfriend right now and we are both going on it but only because we have been together 4 years and plan on getting married once coronavirus is over. We probably would have gotten married this month if it didn't happen. 
I totally understand just wanting to put one name on it though and you just pay some rent. There's a lot of reasons to do it that way and in the end if things don't end well you can leave that house and not be responsible for paying it which is nice.
Its funny cause if you posted this same thing on like Reddit everyone would tell you good, don't put 2 names on it if you're not married but I bet on this app everyone tells you to put 2 names on it.

When we moved into our home, we had been dating about a year. I was part of the whole buying process except I was not on the mortgage. If something were to go sideways, he wanted that protection of not having me on the mortgage (a situation his brother had been through), and I respected that. Because the loan was based solely on his income, he solely paid the mortgage. I took what I had been paying in rent and put it into a new savings account (with only my name on it). If needed, we used that money for projects around the house (landscaping, painting, carpet), but most of it just went into the account and sat untouched. We divided up the other bills like utilities. 
We are now married and we live in a common property state, so even though I’m still not on the mortgage, the house is legally half mine. He still pays the mortgage and I still put money into that other account. We recently used a good chunk of that account as a down payment on land that we will build on in a couple years. 
The really nice side to having a home based on one person’s income is the ability to save the other person’s income. We’ve been able to whether some challenging times (I was on medical disability for 7 months after having our first child) because we had that savings to rely on. An unexpected house or car repair doesn’t cripple us financially. We’re by no means wealthy (we’re both public school teachers), but we have a safety net because we have lived below our means.

If the house is bought in his name only and you pay into it for years and then break up, you really legally cant recoup any of your losses and essentially just have to walk away from this "investment" with nothing as the asset is his. 
If you are planning a life together, I would not pay a dime on or into a home without my name being on it. If things don't work out, you can sell the asset and be made whole again.

Hey girl, I've had the exact same issues with my boyfriend. Exact same situation. My partner ended up coming around because I said I didn't want to do the same as you, pay into something that's not mine.. doesn't make sense. I stressed it and over time he came around. Even if he has the down payment. Let your boyfriend go and see how much he can get on his own (I did the same) and let it play out a bit until you are actively looking. If you're comfortable I would even say we can sign a prenup for the amount you are putting towards the house that I am not for security that he gets the down payment back if it doesn't work out. 
I think I'm some situations it is more of a commitment issue but if you two are already on a lease together then that's a big step in itself.

My boyfriend and I have talked about buying a house and only putting it in his name. From the beginning we have set thing up so that it would be a clean break if we were to break up but we also both know that we are in this. The plan is that we are going to get married once I finish nursing school. Once married, then we could look at putting my name on the house as well.
