change your toddler’s car seat to forward facing?

Dear moms,
My son is 30 months and has started feeling uncomfortable and cries simply cause he’s uncomfortable. I change it to forward facing but I heard that it’s unsafe to do so till 4. Have any of you moms changed or do you advise against it?

Answer

I would advise against it, unless he's at the max height and/or weight for his rearfacing seat. Rearfacing is proven to be safer until they hit max weight/height. Better for them to be a little uncomfortable and survive a car crash than to be comfortable and be killed/seriously injured in a crash. 
I have a 3.5 year old (41 months if you prefer to go by that) and a 19 month old who are both rearfacing. I've taught my 3 year old how to cross his legs to be more comfortable. And he is absolutely fine like that. He is still about 8 lbs under the max weight for the rearfacing option on his seat and he will stay rearfacing until he hits that requirement.

Feeling uncomfortable vs potentially dying in a  car crash? 
Easy choice for me. My daughter will be three in August. Still rear facing and will rear face as long as the car seat allows her to do so safely.

My sons 4yr right now. He’s always been tall for his age but not weight wise. We turned him around when he was 2 in the middle seat. He’s been perfectly fine, you can’t even budge his car seat. 
Don’t let people’s harsh comments make your decision. The AAP changed the age for changing the position of the car seat. There are plenty of articles that state not to do it until age four, and that age 2 is pretty standard for either height or weight according to the manufacture of your car seat.
