A birth story!
I have mild PCOS about which I came to know last
year in March on a doctor's visit. We(My husband and me) then started planning to conceive a baby. I came to know in July that I was pregnant.
My pregnancy journey went quite smooth. No morning sickness etc just had some acid reflux, back pain in the last trimester. I even attended my office till 3rd March 2020.
It was 5th March, 2020. I woke up at 4 in the morning with a stomach pain and discharge. It was a period type pain. Although bearable but quite strong. I woke up my husband and we headed towards the hospital at 7. Reached there at 8 morning in the emergency. I was able to walk, eat and was having pains in between. I had some discharge. The midwife checked my cervix. Told me it was 0 dilated and you are having a show. Didn't knew what it meant. She told that your labour may or may not start. You can stay in hospital or go home as you like. We decided to go to home as it would be more comfortable there. At home I was having pains too but could rest at bed. I knew it was coming. I didn't had my maternity photoshoot before because of the weather and other reasons. So me and my husband decided to have the photoshoot, thought it could be the last chance and baby might deliver soon. We went outside our home in the evening. I was having contractions at 10-15 mins apart. It was kind of funny. I was smiling when the contractions was gone and clicked pictured. We went home and my contractions continued. At night it was coming every 2-3 minutes and I had this intuition that I need to go to hospital asap. We went to hospital again at 11 night. At this moment I was not able to walk properly. Had the cervix dilated with 3-4 cm. From emergency I was taken to labour ward. The midwife was so good there. She told me that you will have your baby in this ward and it could take till morning 7 a.m for baby to come out. I was having strong contractions and was walking, sitting. Also had the mucus plug came out. My husband was my constant support. He was by my side boosting my motivation. The midwife gave me gas and air to breathe. I found it helpful. Another midwife came as the current one went on a meal break. I could feel something coming out. It was the waters in a sac. The midwife broke them with a needle. By this time my cervix was 10 cm dilated and it took an hour to reach there from 3 cms. Now the pushing started. Found it difficult as I was exhausted and was not sure of the correct technique. The midwife was super motivating. I was using gas and air. Did a lot of pushes for an hour. The baby did came down and the crowning of baby head was visible. But I was getting very tired with pushing. Also the baby was not moving out. So the doctor came and did the stiches. I was aware that a lot of blood was coming out. My little baby girl came with help of vacuum. The happiest moment of the life was in front of my eyes. Had skin to skin with her. The husband cut the cord. The stitching was going on and my legs were upside for quite a while. It was painful. Placenta etc was coming out. The doctor pressed my belly button with a lot of pressure. Tears came in my eyes with the pain and joy of having my baby and gas air in my mouth. Baby was weighed and her temperature was 36.4 little low so she was put in heating for some time. Her temp was back to normal then. We went to another ward in morning 11. We were very happy and spending time with baby. Thinking that we could go home in a day since it was a normal delivery. But on 7th March I had a high fever. It was 100 degrees Celsius. The nurses took my blood, bp, swab tests. I was put on AV antibiotics where I was on drip for 4 hours at a time. It was getting difficult to feed the baby. The fever was gone but then it came again at night. The doctors didn't knew which infection it was. I was getting the antibiotics, bloods taken. After 4 days of taking antibiotics, numerous bp, blood etc checks. The doctors told me that I was having infection of group g strep and that I need to complete the course of antibiotics for another week. That means I have to stay in hospital. I was feeling quite sad on one hand as I cannot breast feed, care for my baby and content on another as I will go home healthy with my little girl.
I came home on 15th March 2020 from the hospital. It was a happy moment for me. My parents were there to welcome us in our home. My angel is now two months old. Here are some pictures of my daughter.
