When did you get your first ultrasound?

I'm currently 6 weeks with my 3rd baby. As soon as I got that positive test I called a local highly recommended OB to schedule my first appointment. 
With my previous two pregnancies (each at different OBs than the one i called for this one) they stressed the importance of coming in as close to 8 or 9 weeks so they can do an ultrasound and get everything set up.
The OB I called this time scheduled me for my first appointment at 10 weeks and for my first ultrasound at 12 weeks....?? Don't you think 12 weeks is a little late for an initial ultrasound? What if its twins? Isn't that something you'd want to know as a doctor before 12 weeks?

I’m not sure where you are (guessing the states?) but in England we don’t have an ultrasound until week 12 as standard! But I know places everywhere are pushing appointments back, I’m 13 weeks and have my scan tomorrow, and I still haven’t seen anyone face to face! I had an 8 week call with my midwife to discuss medical history but that’s it, they’re taking my bloods and everything tomorrow as part of the scan. It’s frustrating but there isn’t anything I can do sadly. I’m sure you’ll be fine!

In the uk we don’t get a scan till we’re 12 weeks anyway, it’s really not that long to wait x

Both of my pregnancies I didn’t have an ultrasound until 10 weeks.  10-12 weeks is the norm for most “ normal “ pregnancies. Although some OBs skip the dating ultrasound and wait until the anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks

I had ultrasounds at 6 and 8 weeks but bc it was IVF so those were still at the fertility clinic to make sure everything was good. This was in Dec, early Jan. After I was discharged to go to my actual OB office I was expecting they’d want to do one for themselves at my 1st appointment with them. That was around 12 weeks. Didn’t happen. I didn’t have another ultrasound until 23 1/2 weeks as my 20w anatomy scan was pushed back from the dang virus. I must say this is my 1st pregnancy and I don’t believe I’ve been getting the greatest prenatal care, or near what I expected and I hope it’s just bc of the virus. I’m not high risk or anything so most of my appointments have been moved around and made virtual. Before anyone tries to jump on my back, I get it. There’s craziness happening now. It’s still been pretty disappointing. 😕

I went in for my first appointment & Ultrasound at what was believed to be the 10 week mark based off my LMP. Baby, however, measured at 8 weeks. With this virus going around the Ultrasound tech called me and cancelled it a WEEK before I was to be seen. Thankfully my OB said he would be performing it himself since he needed those base measurements. 8-12 weeks is normal for an initial appointment & ultrasound as I was informed.

8-12 weeks is pretty normal. mine was 8 weeks for a dating scan & then i won’t have another ultrasound until 20 weeks. if you’re not high risk & your previous pregnancies were fine then they probably are more comfortable having you wait until closer to 12 weeks. i don’t think it makes *that* much of a different getting it done at 12 instead of 8.
