Post-baby exercise?

How long after having baby did you start some sort of exercise? Do you have to wait until your 6 week appointment?

I am a physical therapist. You are "supposed" to wait till your 6 week follow up before beginning strength training, abdominal exercises, and cardio training. However you can walk and make sure you have good posture during activities of daily living, such as squating to pick something up off of the floor instead of bending over. I am a hippie and always tell my patients that your body knows best so take it slow and if it feels good, (no sharp or shooting pain), then go for it! But any pain, discomfort, or changes in vision means "stop". Good luck on your recovery journey! I hope this helps.

I started doing exercises that strengthen the pelvic floor around 2 weeks because I noticed a bad prolapse, I only just started going on walks at 7 weeks because the walking trail was closed.

Depends on how your labor and delivery was. Did you have c section? If you had surgery or you tore them I’d say VERY light walking if you even can. If you’re feeling good then moderate exercise is ok, no heavy lifting or running. 6 weeks isn’t a long time but tearing or jarring something could really do damage and it isn’t worth the risk.

I started doing hour long walks a week postpartum. Nothing crazy but did the same as I was doing the end of pregnancy for at least something. I would do more rigorous until cleared by your doctor.
