We don't want a Christening

Is this the right group? I don't know - sorry if it isn't

Without going into it too much, we aren't religious, if our child chooses to practise a religion that is up to them and we will fully support it but we are not a practising Christian family.

We were married in a Catholic church but we were younger then and did not fully understand our feelings towards religion, as we've grown older, we do not agree with some of the morals, teachings and beliefs of the church (only our opinion, please don't judge).

For those that chose not to Christen their children, did you have a welcoming ceremony or naming ceremony or similar? Would we be best waiting until our child's first birthday and just having a birthday party? What are your experiences? Have you been to a non-Christening or had one yourself?

We do not want gifts, we are plenty able to buy everything our child needs but we have certain family members that would expect a Christening, but we don't want one just to please them, we don't want to be hypocrites.

Please no judgement we just want some advice if you have any. Thank you
