Ask your husbands for me please!!!

To me this seems controlling and we have since broken up and i am in the process of moving out, but i want to know what others think. So long story short my now ex boyfriend has made me cut every guy out of my life except family. He had made me choose between being friends on facebook with guys or being with him. We have a child together so i choose him...well the other day my best male guy friend sent me a request on facebook and i accepted it. We will call him "jay." Well i grew up with Jay we have been friends since we were in diapers. Let me make this clear i have NO sexual relationship with Jay never have and never will. Well when my ex seen that i added him he blew up got pissed and kicked me out of our home. (Thank god i know the laws and knew by law he couldnt make me leave because I am on the lease)... Also let me say my ex was completely aware of who my best male friend is...so back to my question was he right to be mad at me for not "asking him" if I could add my best friend on facebook or does your boyfriend/husband tell you cant have male friends??
