What happens at a sweep? (UK)

So I have my sweep booked tomorrow, I will be 39+5. I know that they will put a finger in and move it but other then that, I don’t really know what’s going to happen...can anyone tell me? 
Just feel more comfortable knowing what I’m in for 😂

So your midwife will insert finger not sure if it’s one or two... find cervix (this can be a tad uncomfortable depending on position of cervix ) then if she is able to she will insert finger into the opening of the cervix and make circular movements around it to attempt to detach the membranes from the cervix. This process also helps produce prostaglandins which aid dilation. She will tell you how your cervix currently is .. hope that helps 🙂

I had my first one yesterday (at 40+2) and honestly it was fine. I tried not to think about it beforehand anyway and my midwife explained to me beforehand what would happen and during. But I just focused on my breathing, any time I winced I remembered ‘breathe’ and took it as an opportunity to practice my breathing techniques. It was like 2 mins and yes it’s uncomfortable but it wasn’t that painful. It’s kind of like a heavy prod right ‘up there’ for a little bit.
I feel a million times more confident after having it done. got another one booked for Saturday morning if I don’t go into labour before and I’m fine with it (at 40+5).
