Membrane Sweep: What Should I Expect?

A little background, I posted a few days ago about my stomach being constantly hard with cramps that came and went. OB suggested I go to L&D and surprise, I was having contractions every 4-5 minutes. Overnight, I progressed from 1cm 0% effacement to 3cm 80% effacement but then I stopped dilating. My contractions have been 3-4 minutes apart ever since. I was discharged Wednesday night and at my appointment this morning, I still had not progressed and my OB did a membrane sweep to see if it would help.

I’m only 37+4 weeks and I know membrane sweeps are usually done if you’re overdue, but all I was told was to expect light spotting and a little discomfort.

It’s been about 4 hours since and my contractions are definitely feeling stronger and I had bright red mucus discharge (about the size of my palm) but I don’t know if that’s my bloody show or if that’s normal after a sweep.

What should I expect and what should I look out for?
