Gave boss a doctors note and now I think I’m fired?

Another edit: The lawyer says they are breaking the law and discriminating against me, they are taking on my case. 
So my doctor wrote me a note saying I need to be primarily seated at work for the remainder of my pregnancy. I gave my boss that note and he starting freaking out. Trying to guilt me into still doing my work on my feet all day. I said no I need to be able to sit I’m not going against my doctors note and I’m in pain. So then he told me I could go ahead and leave and he’s not sure what he’s going to do? Oh and he also said I’ll have to do a fitness test cause they want a second opinion to make sure my back is actually hurting and that I do need to sit down. What the hell do I even do?! I’m about to cry.🙄😡
EDIT: i found out I AM PROTECTED 100% they have to accommodate me and cannot fire me. They can’t make me do the fitness testing unless they make all the pregnant women do the testing as well. Other wise it’s discrimination. We have 3 pregnant women currently. So they will have a lawsuit on their hands. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Go to HR. They legally can not fire you for this or go against your doctors orders. They can have a lawsuit on their hands. So definitely contact HR/ corporate.

As an employer I can’t even imagine treating someone like this. If I was you I would let them fire me and collect unemployment. That’s ridiculous! Also could you apply for temporary disability?

I work for an ob office so I see this a lot. Unfortunately, in the US, they can indeed fire you if you can’t do what is physically required by your job. It’s a technicality- they’re not technically firing you because you’re pregnant, it’s because you can’t do the requirements outlined in the job description. They can get around it being discrimination by saying they’d fire anyone who couldn’t meet the job requirements anymore (for example-if a coworker broke a leg, or developed some other illness or injury and could no longer do the job, they’d all be treated the same).
We push back hard on writing notes like this for our pregnant patients because A: technically even though you’re hurting it’s not “medically necessary” to limit activity unless you have an actual complication and B: because people get fired.
It totally sucks, and it’s hard to be pregnant and have an active job. But legally, unfortunately, they can fire you 😕

If you are responsible for collecting the tools then how can you do that not on your feet? Would it add additional work for someone else
Or change the dynamic of the job? Correct they can’t fire you for a medical condition but they can request you go out on short term or long term disability (not sure how much longer u have w ur pregnancy) or they can put you in a different position that doesn’t require you to be on your feet . Try to work with them . What is the medical reason, will it cause harm to the baby or do you have a diagnosis other than “my back hurts” (not to sound crass) can you wear supportive gear I.e belly bands , back supports tc?

Go to HR! Don’t let them bully you. You have the right to sit, and they can and have to accommodate you! I would also look at your FMLA benefits and start looking up guidelines and policies for pregnant women.

Thats crazy because really hr is supposed to contact your doctor and make sure the letter is legit my hr does with everyone and you're pregnant for heaven sakes but I know the feeling i was working a job recently 12-14 hours hard labours work and I was the only female there im 36 weeks pregnant and was still lifting heavy things over my head im talking over 600 to 1200 pounds an hour and my manager seen that i was trying to stay strong and keep working until i was 37 to 38 weeks well after preterm labor started some of the guys stopped me from lifting the heay stuff they would do it for me and let me do the light work my manager told me that it doesn't matter that im pregnant he can't take it easy on my just because im pregnant because I could case them a law suit if i dont do everything the job requires minding you now im 36 weeks
