When is it safe?

When is it safe to see my family again,I feel so conflicted in my state and county we are moving towards phase 2, I have a 10 weeks old they have not seen In person, I also have a 3 and 2 year old,my husband thinks it’s okay to have a couple family member at a time but not hold our daughter but I feel our 2 older kids will run and hug them because that’s what they are use to doing, I don’t know what to do, I mean we risk going out every time we go to the store or a doctor appointment, why not have our family members over?!

I am having my first born child next week and I am going to wait 2 weeks and limit the amount of people I have come meet him. We will have outdoor meetings but I am literally getting depressed not seeing family. I have no been anywhere expect to doctors appointments the past 10 weeks and I just hate it. So I will alone a few family members meet our baby probably won’t let them hold him but at least to come over and talk with us. I miss everyone so much and I am a very social person. So you have to do what makes you feel safe.

Do what you feel comfortable with. We stayed away from everyone for over 2 months. A few weeks ago, a very close family friend committed suicide. We decided at that time, it wasn’t worth it to completely isolate ourselves. We let the kids (8 months & 4 years) see their grandparents and aunts. I spoke with our pediatrician about it, and she explained that everyone’s mental health is just as important.

I think at this point it depends on where you live and what you’re comfortable with. My cousin had her baby yesterday and her parents went to stay with their son so she and her husband could go to the hospital. His parents are going to come down when they get home and see the baby. She told me she’s also okay seeing her siblings at the house once they’re home and settled in. We are in yellow and I’m thinking we will move to green next week. Our hospitals are even opening things back up to visitors now.

It’s hard! There’s no clearly defined right or wrong way. I have a newborn, and we have let immediate family see and hold him. That still makes me extremely nervous, as my husband’s family still goes out to the store a few times a week, and his mom and brother go to work every day. I know I should have done it before, but I think I am going to try to limit their contact with him. We see my mom almost every day, but she stays home 98% of the time. She goes to the grocery store once every 3-4 weeks and is meticulous about putting on new clothes, washing her hands, and wearing a mask to see baby. 
Unfortunately I feel like I’m never going to feel totally safe again to just have anyone hold him.

My sister and sister in law had babies in February and have had family comr over and they just hang out in the back yard and talk all still separated.

Ask their pediatrician. I’m not due until September but when I met with our pediatrician, I asked him what they recommend and he said just to make sure no one has travelled in past two weeks, they need to wear a mask and of course wash their hands a lot. But he is ok with my parents and my husbands parents meeting baby when we get home from hospital. He said he doesn’t recommend my nieces and nephews meeting him then especially if they are back in school since kids tend to be germy and masks are harder for them to wear.
