Update: Need gift ideas for 1st Wedding Anniversary!!!
Hello, Ladies....
So, long story short. My hubby & I have been together 9 years. Married one year next week. He's a very difficult man to buy for. He makes good money & buys most of the things he wants himself.
I'm currently on unemployment & haven't received any benefits, yet. As my hours at work were just recently cut. I've worked 8 hrs this month. I've been blowing through my savings for gas, bills & food. So, finances are limited. ( My husband & I have separate accounts. We split bills.) Here's my dilemma:
His Birthday was the 23rd. I spent $180 on an ice maker for him. ( Something he's wanted for awhile)
I was originally going to buy him a Bluetooth stereo system for our motorhome. ( Something he's been talking about for awhile.) It's $210.
But, He just surprised me with a diamond ring for our anniversary. It's beautiful. I love it. Even though I didn't need something so extravagant. Roses, card & homemade dinner would have been fine!
Since, he spent over $1000 for my gift. He's asking for a $550 power washer. Do I just buy it & drain my account? I've talked to him about it. He wants me to match his efforts. But, it's hard....since, he's an essential worker & my hours at work are extinct. Money's tight for me. He has a consistent income.
When we were dating... We always did something simple. We went to dinner. (For last 8 years. ) Now that we're married the game has changed. Thoughts?
I need to think of the perfect gift. What did you buy your significant other on your first anniversary??? Looking for ideas.
Looking to talk through my dilemma. Thank you for reading!!!
UPDATE:
Thank you all for your responses. It is appreciated!!! I'm going to sit him down for another discussion... Let him know I'm uncomfortable with these new expensive changes. I want things to return to the simple celebrations we had before we were married. Not extravagant events. He will be getting a heartfelt gift this year. Something with meaning. I'm not sure what that will be quite yet. But, I'll know it when I see it. I will be responsible & not go broke for a gift!!!! Thank you all for your feedback. You are the best!!!!
