3cm 80% effaced

I had an appointment yesterday and I was 2-3 cm and my cervix was still thick. I had contractions every 5 minutes or so last evening. Today I feel like I have constant menstrual cramps, I feel like I’m gonna get diarrhea, and I’m having contractions but they’re not really painful. I got checked and I’m 3cm and 80% effaced. Does it look like labor is coming soon? My doctor said to go home and wait it out.
