When did your child start wiping their own bum?

My son will be 3 soon, I don’t expect him to do it 100% solo (and do a good job) anytime soon but just wondering when others started to do it solo or with little intervention from parents?

My daughter will be 3.5 years old in August & I try have her do “practice wipes” then I wipe her thoroughly, I think my stepson was 4 years old when we stopped wiping him, however given the state of his underwear now (age 9.5) he still doesn’t do a great job of wiping, he’s got some motor skills issues so that may be part of it, he now uses wet wipes some of the time & that seems to help

My son is 3 and he likes to do it himself. I always supervise and then wipe him again after because he still cant quite get in there properly. I think it really depends on the child, though. My son is very independent and gets aggravated when you try to help him with anything until he feels he needs your help. For other kids it may be more gradual and also depends on how long they have been potty trained and how comfortable they feel about it.
