Four Year Old Wetting Herself

Okay mama’s. I need some advice on how to help my daughter.

She is four years old, and has been potty trained since she was about 2. She hardly ever wets the bed, and rarely has an accident where she wets herself. But, the last week and a half have been a totally different story. She has peed herself everyday, multiple times a day. She says she knows she isn’t supposed to, and when I ask her why she isn’t going to the bathroom, she just mumbles something like “cause I wasn’t to”. It doesn’t make any sense, and I can’t get a real reason out of her. She will use the bathroom still sometimes, but will just pee herself other times.

I am pregnant, so many people think that she is struggling with the idea of having a baby in the house. That could be it, but she seems so excited. Always wanting to talk to the baby, buy things for the baby, or even practicing on her baby dolls.

My dad also passed away about a month and a half ago. They were VERY close- he babysat her for the first two years before his health got so bad. They remained super close even after he didn’t keep her anymore. She seems to be doing better, and to understand what death means. We put a picture of them in her room, and I let her watch videos of them together on my phone whenever she asks. She doesn’t talk about him as much anymore, but this could also be it.

She is also afraid of so much right now. afraid of her room, afraid of monsters, afraid of the lights in our house. Even told me she was afraid of sun light! I’m not sure if this is connected or not.

I am wondering if it’s stress of new baby, my dad passing, a combination, or just a stage. It’s a lot of change for a small child.

I have wanted to make an appointment with a counselor, but the few in my area are either not accepting new patients or are closed with COVID.

Any advice on how to help her through this?

Picture because she’s cute ❤️
