First scan?

Hi ladies, not sure if it’s the same in all parts of the world (I’m UK) but when actually is the first midwife/scan appointment? I am getting conflicting messages between 8-12 weeks? Just thinking of getting a private early scan and not sure whether they are worth it? 💖

You’ll have a booking appointment with your midwife around 8 weeks, then a 12 week scan and a 20 week scan. I had a private scan at 10 weeks because I wanted my husband to see the baby and he isn’t allowed to attend any of the scans. I’d say leave the private scan for as long as you feel like you can to see the most!

8-12 is pretry standard. I know tou want to see baby, but don't reccomend any scans before 8 weeks. Just because early on, if you dates are a bit off, then you won't see anything, and it makes you much more anxious. At 8 weeks, it is quite sure, there is a little. Nugfuet visible and also a heartbeat. That is also why most of the place do first visits 8-12 weeks...

12 weeks for hospital scan and you will have a seperate appointment (probs earlier) with your midwife at like a childrens centre to go through paperwork, urine test, bloody pressure ect.
I wouldn't bother with an early private scan as you wont really see anything.
I went for a private scan at 11 weeks (so my fiance could come along as hes not aloud to the nhs one) and at least by then we could actually see a little baby by then.

They really only do an ultrasound before 8 weeks if you’re high risk or have had previous losses.
It’s always risky to do an early scan because there’s the possibility of the baby being too small and not being able to see things which might lead to unnecessary anxiety and stress.
Most places the first ultrasound is between 8-10 weeks.
