Do i need to buy a cot?

Obviously i know ill need one at some point but for the first 6 months baby will be next to me in a crib.
So im just wondering if i need to buy a cot now or can it wait till baby is ready for it?

Crib or bassinet??
I ask because my little on started kicking in her bassinet and would end up completely sideways and stuck in the mesh so I moved her to a full size crib at 2 months.
A crib is fine
But a bassinet may not last 6 months
